In fact, dentures cause the bones which hold your teeth to degenerate. It’s the same reason those who do not exercise loose muscle, lack of use. Even permanent dentures and bridges cause the same bone degeneration. Implants will stimulate bone growth by acting just like your natural teeth.

One of the biggest concerns people have with dental implants is their cost. When looking at advertisements for dental implants, you need to be careful because some ads can be very misleading. Remember what your mama told you, if something sounds too good to be true…it probably is too good to be true!
Dr. Holtzclaw is the Editor-In-Chief of the JIACD (international readership of more than 100k dentists) and is one of the most experienced dental implant surgeons in Austin. He would like to take a moment to explain the real costs of dental implants in Austin and things that you should consider when selecting a dentist to place and restore your dental implants.
Was the implant dentist trained at a residency program or were they taught how to place dental implants at a weekend continuing education course? Surgical specialists such as Dr. Holtzclaw receive nearly 20,000 hours of continuous courses specifically about dental implants and dental surgery compared to average of 25 hours dentists spend learning to place dental implants at evening continuing-ed classes.
What level of experience does the dentist have with Implant surgery? Dr. Holtzclaw has successfully placed over 8,000 dental implants with many of these procedures being extremely advanced. Dr. Holtzclaw has written over 50 papers on dental implant surgery in peer reviewed dental publications and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Implant & Advanced Clinical Dentistry. Dr. Holtzclaw lectures about implant dentistry internationally, having provided over 150 main podium lectures in the USA, Canada, Italy, Japan, Korea, and India.
Just like there are many brands of cars with varying degrees of quality, there are also many dental implant brands with varying degrees of quality. As Editor-In-Chief of an international dental journal, Dr. Holtzclaw has experience with nearly all dental implant manufacturers. Dr. Holtzclaw uses the world’s largest, oldest, and most respected brands of dental implants…Nobel Biocare® and NeoDent. Nobel Biocare{r) and NeoDent are considered the Ferraris of dental implants in terms of quality, prestige, and performance. As a matter of fact, Dr. Holtzclaw has lectured on behalf of Nobel Biocare® and NeoDent on an international basis. Did you know that many other dentists in Austin use dental implants that universally recognized for being the cheapest you can use? Is your implant dentist using a Hyundai or a Porsche type of dental implant? Which would you want to replace you teeth?
Many dentists in Austin advertise very cheap dental implants to simply get patients into their office. Once there, the price of the dental implant often increases as the dentist nickels and dimes the patient with additional fees and charges. I have even seen offices charge patients fees like a “sterilization fee” for dental implant procedure! Can you believe it? When all is said and done, that “inexpensive” dental implant now becomes very expensive. Dr. Holtzclaw charges one all-inclusive fee for his dental implants that includes all parts, pieces, and procedures.
When comparing dental implant providers in Austin, there is one choice that is clear. No one in Austin can compete with Dr. Holtzclaw in terms of dental implant experience, scientific publications, dental surgery lecturing, industry involvement, and quality of work. On top of this, his prices for dental implants are among the best in Austin!
Advertisements touting very inexpensive dental implants many times do not reveal the full price of the complete dental implant. The process of receiving a dental implant involves multiple stages including placement of the dental implant surgically, uncovering the implant at another appointment, attaching the abutment, and finally attaching a crown. The implant surgeon will typically place the dental implant while a different dentist will deliver the abutment and crown. In cases where offices advertise cheap dental implants, I have seen instances where the patient is nickel and dimed with additional charges that make the final cost of the implant surgery very expensive. Please consider this information before making a clear dental implant choice.
All offices pay similar amounts for dental implants when they purchase them from the manufacturer. If someone is advertising extremely cheap dental implants, be wary of additional hidden costs. Reputable dental implant specialists have one single clear cost for the implant surgery process. If your implant dentist is hitting you with multiple little charges for your implant surgery, be careful! That “low cost” dental implant may end up costing you much more than you bargained for.
The average cost of a dental implant is typically around $2,000 for anesthesia, surgery, implant, and healing abutment. This may vary from office to office depending on the type of implant used by the surgeon. Like cars, some implants are Hyundai while others are Porsche. Top quality implants are priced higher than imitation implants. Also, many offices offer periodic specials on implant surgery, so be sure to ask your dental office if they are running any promotions. Remember, if the dental office you are working with is hitting you with multiple charges for your implant process for each step, be wary! Add up the complete list of charges. By the time you have paid for all of the steps of the implant process, your “cheap” dental implant often ends up costing more than those placed by dental specialists that charge one all-inclusive price for dental implants.

Austin Dental Implant Center are part of a professional affiliation of dental implant practices operated by oral surgeons, periodontists, prosthodontists, and restorative dentists. With the specialized techniques used by Austin Dental Implant Center, such as zygomatic and pterygoid implants, nearly all patients qualify for same day dental implants from a dental perspective. Prospective patients require an initial workup that includes an oral examination, 3D radiographic evaluation, and medical history consultation. Some patients with certain medical histories may not qualify for surgical treatment. “Teeth-in-a-day”, “one day implant teeth”, “same day implant teeth”, etc. refers to the fact that on the day of surgery, patients will have teeth removed (unless all teeth are already missing, dental implants placed, and a screw retained prosthesis secured to these implants on the same day as the surgery. While this first set of teeth are permanent in the fact that they are secured to the dental implants by screws, these teeth are typically not the final set of teeth as the patient will be allowed to heal prior to the delivery of the final set of teeth. Furthermore, the patient will be allowed to suggest desired changes to the initial set of teeth prior to the fabrication of the final set of teeth. The initial set of screw retained implant teeth are permanent in the fact that they are not removable by the patient and can only be removed by personnel in a dental office. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime depending on the age of the patient when the implants were originally placed. Studies show that dental implants can last over 25 years with proper home care and regular professional maintenance.
